Posted in Uncategorized on August 18, 2008 by shannalynnLet me start by saying- my blog just had 70,000 hits. I was so humbled by 10,000 hits- this one just makes me speechless! I’ll probably pass out if i make to 100,000! I do want to say a big THANK YOU, GRACIAS, MERCI, DANKE, MAHALO, XIE XIE (that’s Mandarin in honor of the Olympics-) to all for reading!
I never quite got around to finishing that post, did I? This session was a double, with the little 2 yr old and new baby pictures. This baby isn’t that old- two months? But he is so big! I don’t know an exact weight, but he was a bit over 11 pounds at birth. ELEVEN POUNDS!!!!!! That makes for nice squishy baby chub rolls- there is nothing better!
I love this one- the little sly peekaboo look, eyelashes, his fingers, hint of his top lip and all those rolls!!
how great is his expression? not to mention mom’s? If this were an image of my family- it would hang HUGE on my wall! To me, this is a true family portrait!
yes- that one IS blurry, but so cute! I’ll just say the blur adds to the movement effect..

I’m happy with my session and happy to show these off!
8 months
Posted in Uncategorized on August 5, 2008 by shannalynnThe title says it all- Spencer will be 8 months old tomorrow. He’s everywhere, crawling at the speed of a sound, into everything and still so cute with his big blue eyes and curly top. I chuckled to myself yesterday morning when I heard complaints from the other kids rise out from the living room. Jack and Claire were fort building or tent building or whatever it is that kids do with 10 blankets and every single chair in a house. I heard my little architects crying- “Spencer stop! Go away Spencer- Mom come get Spencer- Spencer won’t leave us alone” Poor Jack and Claire, but they are just now getting a taste of what is to come in a few more months- a TODDLER!!!!
The dog days are here
Posted in Uncategorized on August 4, 2008 by shannalynnThe dog days of summer are here. It is miserable hot, even our pool is hot. As much as I hate to see summer end- I have to say I am ready to get back to a more structured way of life. School- daycare- work.. We have been remodeling our house, which adds to the chaos. We have two projects going on now- an addition and the kid’s bathroom. We have been living with half finished rooms, tools everywhere and the dust that goes with it. It’s not that it’s taking all that long, but any remodel always adds an air of unrest to a house. I feel stuck in a never ending chaos!
Here’s a session I should have posted a few weeks ago- a few kiddos that didn’t let the heat get them down…

Posted in Uncategorized on July 10, 2008 by shannalynnthese are the days we remember
Posted in Uncategorized on June 24, 2008 by shannalynnI went to my parents’ house a few weeks ago and saw these yellow flowers. I decided that day to take this mom and her baby out there- it didn’t matter that the baby was a “he”. Overall, it was good idea, since I think things turned out nicely. That’s not saying we didn’t have trouble. One bit of trouble came in the form of two slightly overfed canines. My parents have a yellow lab, Bella, who loves people in general. They also have Sally Biter- a pleasantly plump basset hound who generally loves me. That dog has an intense fondness for Shanna. She will knock over anything in her path padding her way out to greet me, ears and flaps of fur bouncing around. She’s not a compact dog at all- she must be at least 70 pounds and 4 feet long. So, I spent the majority of this shoot with that dog rolling over on me, trying to use those short little legs to jump on me or just shooting around her wagging tail. I learned my lesson about shooting where the animals are familiar with me.
I also asked my mom to help me out with getting this baby’s attention: he was intent on studying the varying types of grass growing around him. I never mind that, but I know moms are suckers for a nice smile. My mother, in particular, has the uncanny ability to make all babies smile. So I asked if she minded helping. While she was behind me trying to coax a smile from this child, she started doing the unthinkable: talking about me. Oh lord…. me as a baby, silly stories about my childhood or how difficult I can be. (I am paying my dues now, by the way.) Doesn’t she know I have to be a bit professional? Make a good impression? I was embarassed wondering how this mom was reacting- wondering “why” my mom was talking about all that. But, it’s how we relate to other mothers. No matter how old I am, I am her baby. She was looking at herself decades ago- this young woman with a baby, and sharing her own experiences- she wasn’t trying to embarass me. We have our children, our babies and we never forget. The father was supposed to join his family, but in the end had to work. I know it was disappointing. However, I also know this mom will never regret having pictures made with just the two of them.. since 30 years from now, she’ll be telling the stories she’s living today.
